Top schools getting hitched to CBSE as CBSE/ICSE and ISC’s students are faring well in the examinations. Many remarkable schools have decided to switch boards from state to CBSE. Another reason why schools are switching to CBSE is that parents prefer CBSE more and major entrance exams based on NCERT syllabus are followed by CBSE.

South Point High School is all set to ditch state boards and switch colors as the school will not appear for state board exams, Madhyamik after 2018 and the Higher Secondary examination after 2017. This option was introduced by the school six years ago and now the time has come when they will be following the CBSE syllabus and take the CBSE exams. Another notable school, Gokhale Memorial is also moving to the CBSE fold.

South Point spokesperson Krishna Damani said, “From 2018, we will be a CBSE-affiliated school. This year, we will have our first batch of Class XI students, all of whom will be taking the CBSE. We have 550 students per batch. Only 100 students will be sitting for the Madhyamik for the last time from our school in 2018. Next year, we will have our last Higher Secondary batch, “

This alteration was discussed by the school six years back. “We had given parents the option to choose either the Madhyamik board or CBSE. Over the past few years, students opting for Madhyamik have been steadily dwindling. This has resulted in the switch-over. “

Parents demanded for a complete switch, claimed Damani. “Parents said they were more comfortable with CBSE and there were more opportunities to get into other schools in case the family moved to another city; CBSE scores were higher; and most entrance tests followed the CBSE pattern of questions. There was a general perception that parents were keen on CBSE.So at the end of Class IV, students were given an option to choose either Madhyamik or CBSE,” said South Point spokesperson Krishna Damani.

Gokhale Memorial Girls’ High School, too, will join the list and complete the board switch this year itself. Principal Indrani Mitra said, “We had our last batch of Madhyamik and HS candidates this year. Our first batch of CBSE students took admission in Class XI last year, “

Shri Shikshyatan School also has shifted from state board to CBSE last year.

Another eminent school, Loreto Day School, Bowbazar has also opted to switch to another board, CISCE. “Most parents opted for CISCE. Hence, the school has switched over to the new board. It was done through a democratic process”, said Diya Banerjee, a teacher of the school.
