The CBSE Board, in a circular to all its affiliated schools across the country has directed that junk food must be taken off the canteen menu. Schools have also been asked to inspect lunch boxes, create awareness regarding nutritious food and regularly monitor student’s health. The circular lays down that no HSFF food (food high on fat, salt and sugar) must be available in school canteens. If possible, then necessary steps shall be taken to ensure non-availability of HFSS within 200-meter of radius campus. The board has asked the schools to form management committees to check canteen menus, quality, infrastructure requirements and design physical activity programs for students.
