It seems that the recent trend, also seen this year in the CBSE Class X 2016 is that the Board Exams no longer seem to be the popular choice as more and more students have been opting for internal exams. Previously, it was thought that parents wanted their children to have an experience of the Board examination format once before the big Class XII Board Exam. But this reversal shows that both parents and students are no longer going with the flow and are in fact open to experimenting. This is terrific development given the fact that six years back when the Board exam was made optional in class X, most students as well as parents opted for Board.
For instance, Army Public School, saw all its 293 students take the internal examination.  When enquired about the reason, Coordinator Sumita Ghosh explained that a few reasons over the top of her mind include difficulty in finding exam centers, and that students feel more comfortable writing their first examination in a known environment. Same is the case with Apeejay School, Park Street. All 82 of its students took the internal exam this year. According to Principal Rita Chatterjee, the reason behind this reversal is the increased awareness among parents that there is not much difference in absolute terms between a school and a board exam. Also adding dimensions to this issue is the regular parent counseling done at Mahadevi Birla World Academy. The school lays out the differences between the examinations and points out that the internal exam is a less stressful event as explained by principal Anjana Saha.
