Except Aryama Sarkar of Balurghat, who is the 10th rank holder in the Higher Secondary Merit List  2016,  none of the other female rank holders in the district towns of the State are thinking of pursuing higher studies out of the comfort-zone of their home.

According to Aryama, she has plans of studying economics for graduation at either St. Xavier’s College or Presidency University at Kolkata but she is mainly aiming for St Stephen’s College or Lady Shriram college in Delhi. She is aware of the tentative hardships that lay ahead in stepping out of the home but she has her eyes on the bulls-eye, ready to give up whatever necessary to be successful. Her father, who is a high school teacher by profession is also supportive towards his daughters goals. He explained that there is no logic to deprive her daughter of a life which she dreams of simple because she has been in her parents shadow throughout till date.

However, the scene is quite the opposite in some other cases.  For instance, Pratip Kumar Saha, father of 3rd ranked Nilanjana Saha speaks out his concerns. He admits that he and his wife are in a sticky patch over sending their daughter out of their district Arambag. Though Nilanjana is gearing to go to Kolkata for her higher education, her parents don’t want their beloved daughter to go out of sight and therefore opines in favour of English honors at Arambag College.

Mohona Das and Samanwita Ghosh , the 6th and 9th rank holders in the merit list aspire to take up medical to fulfill their dream of becoming a doctor. But their dreams seem to have an upper bound based on their location of choice. According to them, if they do not get a seat in any of the medical colleges in Kolkata, then its bye-bye medical for them and will be forced to take up Chemistry honors at Jadavpur University.

Limiting ambitions because of insecurity and financial condition will no wonder eclipse more success stories, such as Monalisa Haldar and Sanjukta Ghosh, ranked 8th and 9th respectively in HS 2016. Monalisa’s financial health and Sanjukta’s insecurity about women safety is playing spoilt sport to their dream of studying English in one of the esteemed colleges of Kolkata. With such hindrances, it is a distant dream to follow dreams for this bright unfortunate girls.
