Tabs for students to cost govt. over Rs 2,000cr

The Maharashtra Government is planning to provide tabs for students of state-aided secondary school at a cost of 2,250/- crore as the first step towards introducing the e-learning system. The state has approximately 75 lakh students of Class 6 to 10, about 15 lakh in each class. At present, the government spends Rs 250 crore per annum on providing text books to the students in these classes. Providing tabs to all these students, at Rs 3,000 each, would reach up to Rs 2,250 crore.

Apart from reducing the weight of school bags, learning on tabs would upgrade version of education system.
