A slum situated in the posh Koramangala locality is room to several children who are deprived of basic schooling. Despite several attempts made by the government to enrol them in schools, the dropout rate is high. Their only hope is their ‘Teacher’ who goes door to door, making her way through puddles, open pits and broken roads to convince parents to keep their wards in schools. Suriya Bano is a woman with a cause. She wants every child to be literate. She won the National Award in 2013 but does not court publicity. She was awarded to bring Muslim children back to school, fighting many odds.
