Mugging or memorizing does not count unless a child can absorb the concept of what is being taught. Be it ABCD, 1234 or Newton’s Law, it all goes with the concept and understanding the matter in depth. The age from 3-10 is the crucial age for a child’s mental development. There is no point in reading or writing simply by memorizing when you do not know what you are doing. True learning differs from mugging up and true learning demands understanding of the matter which can also be referred to as a ‘dynamic mind’. Applied learning to a new situation or experience and ability to comprehend things based on concept is all that counts. Schools should organise activities wherein students and teachers shall engage in the environment. Rather than making the children recite the spelling of colours, teachers should make their students dip their hands in bowl of colours and acknowledge them. Teachers should also use certain digital ways to make their students understand the concept of learning. Understanding the concept will help a child flourish infuture rather than mugging up.
