This year nearly 1,27,196 candidates appeared for the WBJEE 2016, held on 17th May across 323 centres . All of them have decided to take up engineering as their career choices. With just 36,363 seats in 102 engineering colleges of West Bengal, it seems that West Bengal is undoubtedly a top choice to study engineering after plus II level. A deeper introspection into this rise of Bengal as a students’ favourite will granulate the odds in favour to the 4 basic segment as described below:

  • Status of Learning:

Satyam Roychowdhury, secretary, APAI, says that the credibility of institutions in Bengal has risen with the production of more successful candidates not only in our country but also across the globe. This trend is a definite boost for the engineering institutes who can now boast of their superior infrastructure and student friendly environment in general. Some of the renowned colleges are at par with the very best of the nation. Upgradation and development lie at the core of this institutes.

  • Curricula taught:

The content and the way it is taught has always taken centre stage. Bengal is still considered as the cultural capital of the country and uses various modern teaching and learning techniques. The engineering colleges are under Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal, formerly known as West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) and the curricula is supervised by it.

  • Favourite Courses:

Bengal has the choice available for the students. Though the trend of the decade has bent the job prospects more towards the computer science and IT grad, opportunities in the core sector thanks to the governments new projects are amply available. But students have been more inclined towards non-core subjects than core. Another sector growing gradually is the architecture sector which sees a lot of action happening being associated with the ever fragile real estate.

  • Bright Prospects:

Students who are good will always bag good jobs and substitute for hard work is not available are the two factual pillars on which the world is running. A stable government at the top of the state administration makes it more suitable to bag a job. With an improvement in industrial sector, students and parents are both hopeful of more increase in jobs.
