Children’s Day 2015 will be celebrated on 14th November, 2015 at 11am at Jawahar Bal Bhavan, Cubbon Park Bengaluru. The Government of Karnataka has initiated several programs, policies and schemes for achieving holistic development of children and improving sex ratio, reducing infant and maternal mortality, increase nutrition of mother and child, protect rights of children and prevent child abuse and exploitation.

Schemes of the Department:

  • Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS): It covers children between 6 months to 6 years, expectant mothers, Lactating mothers and Adolescent Girls. 61187 Anganwadi Centres and 3331 Mini Anganwadi centres set up covering 203 ICDS projects in the State. Early Childhood Care Education and Development (ECCED) including Non-formal Pre School Education.
  • Bhagyalakshmi Scheme: 19300/- for first girl child and Rs. 18350/- for the second girl child born in BPL families, fetch Rs. One lakh on maturity after the girl attains 18 years of age.
  • Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS): ICPS is introduced to ensure a safe and secure environment to the development and well-being of children in difficult circumstances. To reduce vulnerabilities to situations and actions that lead to abuse, neglect, exploitation and separation of children from their families.
  • Children Day Awards: Hoysala Bravery Awards for boys in the age group of 6-15 years for extraordinary courage shown in saving lives of their fellow human beings. Keladi Chennamma Bravery Awards for girls in the age group of 6-15 years for extraordinary courage shown in saving lives of their fellow human beings. Awards are also presented for exceptionally talented children in the field of Education, Arts, Culture and Sports. Four individuals who have rendered commendable service for children’s welfare will be presented with cash award of Rs. 25,000/- and citation. Four awards recognizing institutions who have rendered commendable service in the field of child welfare will be awarded with cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- and citation.
  • Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child’s Rights: Was established with the purpose of protection, promotion and defending child rights in the State.
  • Bal Vikas Academy: Bal Vikas Academy promotes creativity in children through art camps, performances, workshops etc.
  • Bal Bhavan Society: Bal Bhavan Society was established in 1985. Centre for promoting art, culture, theatre, skills and adventure sports etc.

Shri Vajubhai Vala will inaugurate and Confer Bravery Awards to Children, Shri Roshan Baig will preside and Confer State Awards to Institutions. Shri K.J. George will confer State Awards to Individuals. Smt. Umashree will confer awards to Exceptionally talented children (Art, Culture and Music). Shri P.C. Mohan will confer Awards to Exceptionally talented children (Scholastic & Sports). Shri Malikayya Venkayya Guttedar will confer awards to Exceptionally talented children (Innovation, Social Service & Other Field).
