The all-India ICSE and ISC 2016 Toppers are from Kolkata this year. The ICSE third rank holder from all over India, Arka Chatterjee was attending his school when his friends begun to congratulate him at the La Martiniere for boys School. Arka on hearing this was taken aback and checked his phone immediately to find that he had scored 98.8%. Excitement filled him even more when he knew that he had topped the city alog with Oindrilla Bhadra of Vivekananda Mission School, Joka.
Not just this, the city is also proud of Arkadeb Sengupta of Don Bosco, Park Circus and Kavita Desai of Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society who were ranked third in the country for scoring a high of 99.25% in the ISC.
“I had expected a great result but couldn’t believe I was among the top three in the country, Can you believe I even watched ‘Neerja’ a day before the exams,“  said the cool teen who was surprised with his own success. “One should never neglect text books. I sincerely followed all instructions given by my teachers in school. I also read newspapers every morning, “said the Computer Science lover.
However, the sudden spotlight took the shy girl, Oindrila of Vivekananda Mission by surprise who was quite reluctant to speak to media. “Her guardians are rather protective about Oindrila. They believe it may shift her focus and make her complacent,“ said her teacher. “She has always been a brilliant student. We were expecting a great score from her,“ said her principal Sharmistha Banerjee.
Arkadeb Sengupta, the boy preparing for JEE (Advance) and WBJEE said that his achievement 99.25 in ISC came for a price. He also added “I did not attend any social gathering in the last two years,“. Both of Arkadeb’s parents are IIEST (Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology) Teachers by whom he was helped in all his subjects. Arkadeb is a keen sarod player and although classical music is his only recreation, he is passionate about Football and regards Lionel Messi as his demi-god.
Kavita, the Commerce student was filled with extreme delight on seeing her ISC score and was overjoyed for she he can now have a cellphone.  “As a rule no one in my family gets a mobile phone before the class XII results. Now, I will get one myself,“ she said with immense happiness in her eyes. “I put in 16 hours of studies every day and my only dose of entertainment was the hour long break I took to watch TV. Anyone aiming to achieve high scores will have to abide by the rule of working hard,“ said the girl who is aiming to be a CA and has a dream of opening her own firm.
The success stories of these whiz kids will definitely rub off on their kin as well as schoolmates.
