The Rotary Sadan was teeming with Gen-Y reporters on Friday afternoon , as the Inter School Meet 2016  interactive session was held there between Young Metro Force, which is a club of reporters from 50 odd city schools, and students in the range of class IX-XII. The motive of the session was to allow these students to get a grasp on the basics of Journalism from the Young Metro Force whose members hail from top branded schools such as South Point High School, Calcutta International School, Gokhale Memnorial Girl’s School, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Apeejay School Park Street and their likes to name a few. The attendance at the event was nearly 100 students  each determined to express themselves and their prowess in journalism. From events at their school to a choose-your-own topic session, students had  to covere a wide range of events and responsibilities.
Sukanya Roy and Ishani Roy, both class XII passed out, have been key contributors to the Young Metro Force even after school. So their presence and speech was important for the others as they already knew the’ depth of the water’. The sessions main highlight was heavily focused on journalism basics—what is journalism? What are the career options as a journalist? Is it mere reporting of an incident? How do reporters carry themselves in demanding situations? How to make some issue look important? What is the key to staying unbiased? And questions of the sort were mainly what composed the event.
The event began with a PPT by the SYLVAN group on nature and wildlife that introduced teens to the world of instincts. The session was important in cultivating a sense of conservation of nature and wildlife. When enquired about the session, Esha Debnath and Shreya Ganguly  explained that the invaluable advice from the veterans who graced the session along with the clearing of doubts regarding journalism as a career has really served as an eye-opener. Though they are in class XI, but many others like them, after the event are now seriously looking forward to journalism as an occupation when they grow up.
The event of SYLVAN was well matched by another anecdotal slide show that showed events from  Steve Jobs life giving the message to the students on the importance of self-belief and what it can do to your career. It instilled a passion in the students and inspirational quotes such as “Stay hungry Stay foolish’ reverberated through the auditorium.
The programme ended with a music quiz conducted by 91.9 Friends FM. That saw participation of both students and teachers thereby commencing a great event.
