ISC result 2016- Girls ahead of boys this year with nineties club getting increased. The number of those with a 90 plus score went up by as much as 40% in the leading schools in Kolkata. At La Martiniere for Boys, 87 scored 90% while at Vivekananda Mission School, which bagged the third national rank in ICSE had more than 20 % scoring above 90%. Out of 149, 71 scored more than 90% at Don Bosco. At Future Foundation School, 62% of students scored in that range in ISC science while in Humanities, eight out of 11 students passed the 90% mark according to Vice-Principal Krishnokoli Mukherjee. Girls gave a tough competition to boys this year and were way ahead of them. While their pass percentage was 98.34 %, boys recorded 97.74%. While 54.68% of candidates were boys, 45.32% were girls. Joseph Pathickal, principal of Don Bosco School, Park Circus felt students are now more determined and ambitious, “There is a spirit of wanting to excel on the part of the students, which is quite visible. They plan better and study more effectively. The syllabus and the marking system have changed and might have favoured high scoring. But it’s a combination of factors really” said Pathickal. From this year, ISC students will have 40 % of their board exam marks added to the percentile score for the JEE Advanced exam. Nabarun Dey, principal of Central Modern School, added, “So far, students would neglect the board exams and concentrate on the entrance exams. As a result, their performance would never reach the optimum level. But this year, it has been different. Now, ISC students have an incentive to do better in the board exam“Dey said. From the next year, a score of 75% in ISC could be made mandatory to appear in entrance examinations, De added. “But that is still at a stage of discussion.” Girls were more systematic and prepared better for ISC, felt a Kolkata teacher. “They are more regular and organized,” she said. Nabarun Dey said, “They can switch gears better and focused more sharply than boys. This is why they have been doing better than them every year. Even though the difference in terms of pass percentage was not a huge one, boys have some catching up to do”
