Manowar Hossain, the eldest of the six children of Rasidul Islam, has although not found a place in the merit list, but it would be just fair to say that he deserves a place among the elite-most students of the West Bengal Higher Secondary 2016 Examination. Belonging to a family where two square meals a day is a dream come true, one can only imagine how distant it must have seemed to Manowar to be able to continue his education till Higher Secondary, leave aside getting 471 in Arts! His father is handicapped(deaf and dumb) and the entire family was dependent on whatever he could gather as a daily beggar.

But it was perhaps destiny that made Aliyar Rahman, a distant kin of Manowar to take him to Dhulagaon, which was 40 kms away from his home and from there, Manowar pursued his education. His mother was illiterate but did mention about Manowars determination to carry on with education. She confessed that it was almost impossible for them to let him continue and had it not been for Aliyar rahman, Manowar would have never made it this far.Infact, it was a matter of time before his parents had him appointed to a grocery shop!

Manowar wanted to pursue geography for higher studies, but realization dawned upon him that studying Geography is a costly aspect which is unaffordable for his father. Instead, Manowar will now study English Honours and aspires to become a college professor. But whatever he has achieved till now, fighting against all odds, taking up the challenges life had to offer to him, Manowar Hossain has personified determination and has become a glowing example to look up at.
